| Abstract [eng] |
This thesis investigates the potential applications of a remote beehive monitoring system for studying bee behaviour and its relationship with environmental factors. The aim is to develop and evaluate a remote beehive monitoring system that reduces the need for physical hive access and enables more effective beekeeping education. A literature review and quantitative survey of 28 beekeepers established that demand for remote monitoring is high, while existing solutions do not provide access to real hive data. Based on these findings, a two-tier hardware system with GPRS data transmission and an information system featuring 21 educational alert rules were designed and implemented. An experiment conducted from February to August 2025 demonstrated that the system reliably captures seasonal colony changes, achieving 95.2% data integrity. Of 9 hive visits made during the period, 6 were triggered by system alerts, all resulting in concrete interventions. The majority of hive status information was found to be accessible without a physical visit, reducing response time to critical situations to 30 minutes. Future work should focus on improving hardware reliability through a dedicated PCB design and expanding the system with additional learning features. |
