The rapid development of digital technologies is transforming the vocational education process and increasing the need for teachers to purposefully apply a virtual learning environment (VLE). However, in practice, it is observed that vocational teachers lack the ability to systematically create digital learning content, apply interactive tools, and effectively organize teaching within a VLE. This lack of competencies limits the possibilities of using a VLE in vocational education and reduces the innovativeness of the teaching process. The aim of the thesis is to improve vocational teachers’ application of digital technologies in creating high-quality educational content for students by applying a virtual learning environment in the vocational education process. To achieve this aim, a needs analysis of vocational teachers was first conducted, which revealed the demand for improving digital competencies. Based on the obtained results, a solution for developing digital competencies was designed and implemented: two Moodle courses focused on the practical application of a VLE. The courses integrate theoretical knowledge, practical tasks, and interactive activities that enable teachers to apply the acquired knowledge in the teaching process. To evaluate the effectiveness of the solution, a quantitative study based on a retrospective “before–after” assessment was conducted. The comparison of results showed that before participating in the training, teachers’ level of digital competencies was average or below average, especially in terms of their ability to independently create Moodle course structures, apply interactive activities, and use digital tools. After the training, a consistent improvement was observed across all evaluated areas, indicating a positive change in competencies. The most significant improvements were identified in the ability to create structured learning content, use Moodle activities, and integrate additional digital tools. The research results indicate that the application of a VLE creates conditions for improving the quality of teaching, increasing student engagement, and more effectively organizing the educational process. At the end of the study, practical recommendations are provided for the development of vocational teachers’ digital competencies and for more effective application of a VLE in vocational education. |
