Abstract [eng] The pre-primary stage is a very important period during which a child’s thinking, problem-solving abilities, and understanding of the surrounding environment are formed. One of the most important skills at this stage is mathematical reasoning. However, in practice, education is still often based on traditional methods that do not always sufficiently engage children or encourage their active participation. Modern children grow up surrounded by technology; therefore, it is natural that digital tools are becoming increasingly important in the educational process. One such tool is virtual escape rooms, which enable learning through play, exploration, and problem-solving activities. The aim of this study is to improve the development of mathematical reasoning in pre-primary children by integrating virtual escape rooms into the educational process. The paper analyzes the importance of mathematical reasoning, discusses contemporary educational methods, and examines the possibilities of applying digital tools in education. The research aimed to explore how teachers evaluate the development of mathematical reasoning and how frequently they use digital tools. The findings revealed that teachers recognize the importance of this skill; however, they lack practical tools and knowledge on how to apply innovative methods effectively. Although virtual escape rooms are considered an engaging and useful educational tool, their application in practice is still not widespread. During the study, a methodology and an interactive virtual escape room adapted for pre-primary children were developed. This tool enables children to learn through play, actively engage in the learning process, and solve tasks independently or with teacher support. The results of the study revealed that this approach increases children’s motivation, promotes logical thinking, and helps them better understand mathematical concepts. Virtual escape rooms can serve as an effective and engaging tool for creating a modern, inclusive, and learner-centered educational environment. The research topic “Developing Mathematical Reasoning Through Virtual Escape Rooms in Preschool Education” was presented at the international student scientific conference “SMILES 2024: Social Sciences, Arts and Humanities in Contemporary Society” at Kaunas University of Technology. A scientific article has also been published in the conference proceedings (Appendix 3, 4). The developed virtual escape room was piloted in a preschool setting and evaluated by teachers, and is available in the “Mūsų darželis” electronic system for use in educational practice (Appendix 5).
