| Abstract [eng] |
The transportation of oversized cargo is one of the most complex and risk-intensive segments of international supply chains, where customer value depends on planning, coordination, and risk management. the aim of the project is to develop an empirically grounded framework explaining how value elements can be integrated into oversized cargo transportation services to improve service quality and customer value. the theoretical analysis revealed that existing supply chain theories address value creation at a general level and do not sufficiently account for the specific characteristics of oversized cargo logistics. a qualitative case study was selected for the empirical research, conducting five semi-structured expert interviews with representatives of different functions in a lithuanian oversized cargo logistics provider and one external pilot service partner. the key value elements identified were pre-movement planning and feasibility assessment, equipment selection and operational readiness, coordination, communication and visibility, partner network reliability, and risk handling and safety. the study showed that value is created mainly before the cargo movement begins, because accurate cargo data, route checking, timely permits, prepared partners, and timing control determine whether the later process can be executed safely and predictably. based on the results, seven recommendations were provided for oversized cargo transportation service providers. |
