Abstract [eng] Legibility of architectural spaces is architectural or urban quality, which defines ability to find a way in urban or architectural structure and makes it easier to understand the identity and function of a certain space. Legible environment could help understanding not only one space in which person is now, but also could make the whole city more understandable, could help to identify yourself as a part of group, town or community. As it is known, legibility of architectural spaces was not linked to people needs yet. Therefore, the research and experimental project are oriented to three main qualities or needs in legible environment: seeing, moving and having clear activity. The aim of thesis is to determine, if environment, which is designed by these three needs, will be more legible. Research and project take place in Kaunas New Town and are based on observation, questionnaires and space syntax methodology. Hypothetical model, based on analysis of literature and other information sources, was redefined during the research and new concept model was established. Territory was designed based on it and new urban scheme was verified by space syntax methodology.
