Abstract [eng] Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are multipotent stem cells with high self-renewal capacity, ability to differentiate into osteoblasts, adipocytes and chondroblasts, immunomodulating properties and lack of teratogenic potential. These cells have been recognized to be suitable for the needs of regenerative medicine and bone tissue engineering. The presented mini-review summarizes information about biological characteristics (advantages and challenges) of MSCs of various tissue origin.
