Project management is one of the most popular business management strategies and is getting more popular for its adaptiveness. This profession has always been regarded as an exclusively masculine field that demanded masculine characteristics from a manager. Today, as organizations increasingly adopt this organisational model, women are often becoming project managers. The main question is: Does the masculinity discurse influence women career paths? How do men and women experiences differ in project management? The aim of this thesis is to find the main career factors for male and female project managers, analyze needed competencies and barriers that may occur. The theoretical part describes main factors of project manager‘s career: the importance of career model in project management, the main barriers whilst starting the carrier in project management, the main competencies of project manager and the main challenges that are experiences by project managers. These factors are being analyzed from a gender perspective. The quantitative research was made using questionnaire method. The aim of empirical research was to determine if project managers in Lithuania are experiencing the same factors which were excluded in theoretical part. The results were analyzed from gender perspective. Thesis consists of a practical, theoretical, methodical part, research and conclusions. Thesis has 82 pages, 9 tables, 29 pictures. |
