This thesis contains analytical literature review of components used in intelligent packaging. Some of the elements have been briefly evaluated while the more important, in terms of polymeric food packaging materials, like oxygen and time-temperature indicators, are covered more in depth. Evaluated pros and cons of oxygen indicators as well as their production and functioning characteristics. Thesis also contains a scientific research that was conducted in order to produce an ink based colorimetric oxygen indicator suitable for polymeric food packaging. The research contains full explanation on the methods used in laboratory as well as results and conclusions. Time- temperature indicators are reviewed according to the different types and functionality. Commercially used time-temperature indicators are also given with respect to their use in food packaging and cold chain evaluation. Final conclusion of the thesis provided at the end. |
