This project describes nitrogen removal section optimization of Kėdainiai wastewater treatment plant. It was estimated that after incorporating activated sludge treatment and biogas production section the nitrogen removal from wastewater was deteriorated. During this project wastewater characteristics before and after treatment were investigated. After the evaluation of characteristics it was determined that extending nitrification time could improve nitrogen removal. To achieve longer nitrification it was proposed that three additional nitrification tanks could be incorporated in process and one tank for treating wastewater returned from sludge treatment and biogas production section. During the investigation the results showed that with tree additional tanks for nitrification, nitrogen removal should be 44.7 % better that it was before. It was also found that additional tank, for wastewater from sludge treatment and biogas productions section, should completely remove nitrogen. It was estimated that after these changes the effluent should met requirements of directives. Taken this into account technological upgrade for additional tanks incorporation were recommended. |
