Abstract [eng] Al2O3 and Al2O3-10 wt% graphite ceramic coatings were deposited on 304L stainless steel substrate by atmospheric plasma spraying using air- hydrogen plasma. The tribological behavior of reciprocating ball-on-disk of ceramic coatings was investigated under various loads. The counterparts were made of 99.9% Al2O3 ceramic ball with diameter 10mm. The results showed that small addition of graphite powder mixture into the alumina based coating could greatly reduce the friction coefficient and wear rate without significant decrease of this hardness. The friction coefficient of alumina coating with 10 wt% graphite was observed to be 0.42, which was approximately 31.8% lower than that of pure alumina coating and its wear rate was 54% lower than that of pure alumina coatings under a normal load of 1 N.
