Abstract [eng] The analysis of the literature demonstrated that supermarket goods are the main emission sources of particulate matter and volatile organic compounds. Limit values of air pollution in public spaces are defined in two by two documents: 23 HN 2011 and HN 35: 2007. Maximum particulate matter (PM10) concentration residential indoor air - 0.05 mg / m3, while TVOC limit value is not determined. According to the European Commission's recommendation, the total concentration of volatile organic compounds should not exceed 1 mg / m3. The aim of this work was to is to determine the volatile organic compound and particulate matter concentration in selected supermarkets. Hypothesis was that concentrations of PM and TVOC in supermarkets do not meet the standards. The results showed that the particle concentration did not exceed the acceptable limits, but the concentration in January. In No.1 supermarket was quite close to the limit value (0.04 mg / m3). TVOC concentrations in both supermarkets were quite high compared to the limit value established by the European Commission (1 mg / m3):the maximum value in the shopping center No. 1 was 108 mg/m3,in No. 2 was 23 mg/m3. Particulate matter concentration in the air of supermarkets did not exceed the limit value, but TVOC concentration significantly exceeded the EC limit values for health effects. Therefore, it can be assumed that there is a potential risk for supermarket visitors, and especially the health of workers. According to international experience, it is advisable to determine limit value for TVOC in Lithuania. At present Lithuanian legislation determins limit values for individual compounds only. Single VOC concentration measurements unlikely, because it requires a lot of resources.
