| Abstract [eng] |
This research explores the aesthetic dimensions of sustainability within the interiors of Lithuanian rural homes, emphasizing their educational potential in fostering an understanding of the interplay between cultural heritage, functional design, and ecological principles. Spanning the 20th and 21st centuries, the study traces the evolution of rural interior aesthetics from the early 20th-century incorporation of folk elements within neo-modern design to the Soviet-era amalgamation of hidden religious iconography and traditional motifs, followed by the post-Soviet influx of mass-produced and globalized decor. Particular attention is given to the contemporary shift toward sustainable aesthetics, characterized by a synthesis of natural landscapes, minimalist design, and heritage art. By analyzing how traditional and ecological values have been integrated into rural interiors over time, this research reveals a growing alignment with principles of environmental sustainability. Furthermore, it explores the educational implications of these interiors as living environments that communicate and promote cultural continuity, ecological awareness, and sustainable living practices. The findings contribute to the discourse on sustainability in interior design and highlight the role of Lithuanian rural homes as educational spaces that bridge cultural heritage and contemporary environmental ethics. |
