Abstract [eng] The number of means of transport increases constantly and people face the problem of growing need of fuels. Oil resources decrease and it requires searching for alternative fuel sources. One of the easily adaptable alternatives of fuel is renewable fuel produced from biomass. The greatest part of all vehicles in Lithuania are diesel powered so why this work investigates biodiesel, which is rapeseed oil methyl ester (RME). Work objective: To define internals of rapeseed methyl ester, its blends with mineral diesel and their impact on emissions. The work surveys production of biofuel and the factors of its use. It says, that advantages of using biofuel are both ecological and economical, because new jobs are created to grow and process the row material, from which biofuel is produced. Lithuania is the country, which imports the biggest part of the mineral fuel from other countries, so why using its own resources could be so useful. It could reduce the expenses of the country on importing fuels, improve the trade balance and the economy of the country in a whole. The work analyses production and consumption of rapeseed oil methyl ester in Lithuania and the European Union. In accordance with the latest political agreement among the countries members of the European Union 7 % of rapeseed oil methyl ester is added to a summer mineral diesel. The main countries manufacturers of biodiesel are Germany and Spain. They produce nearly 38% of biodiesel needs of the union. The work analyses the process of producing biodiesel applied in Lithuania. It is a combined pressure. The work reviews diesel engine fumes emission indicators of vehicles powered with rapeseed oil diesel. Experimental tests set the calorific value and gale temperature of biodiesel and its mixtures. Consumption of rapeseed oil methyl ester is set in the tests using a car and it is 1.4 times bigger than using the diesel with 7% RME. Meanwhile, the smokiness is 53% less than using the mineral diesel with 7%RME. The composition of exhaust emissions is also set during the test. Different sources of scientific literature are used to analyse the life cycle of RME. The work also introduces calculations of economic efficiency. The study is carried out in accordance with the scientific literature and the data from the department of statistics and other specialized databases.
