Abstract [eng] |
The usage of starch in biodegradable materials is growing every year. Wheat is not only an important source material for the production of food. Wheat starch and its separate granular components have an industrial application. The purpose of this theses is to evaluate physical and mechanical properties of starch films, made from different size of granules. The starch has been produced from wheat flour, while A and B-type of granules has been produced using centrifugal machines. The films of wheat starch and other additions have been produced by casting. The glycerol has been used as PLASTIKLIS, while polyvinyl alcohol was added in order to strengthen the films. Wheat starch films have been produced from starch manufactured by Lithuanian company AB “Amilina”. The purpose of this thesis – to evaluate the effect of wheat starch dispersity and polyvinyl alcohol towards physical and mechanical properties of compositions. It was found that the granules of wheat starch are composed of A and B-type granules the average of which: type A type – 17.77 μm, type B– 11.17 μm. The mechanical properties of the starch film when stretching depends on the dispersity of starch as well as on the concentration of polyvinyl alcohol. The tests carried out has shown that the films with PVA have 1.3 times higher elongation with A-type granules, and 3.8 times higher elongation with B-type granules. The quantity of A and B-type granules mixture (ratio 50:50) in the film has shown that the maximum intensity of elongating 0.28 MPa can be achieved with 12% concentration. The largest elongation of until the break 88% with 8% of the starch concentration in the mixture. Biodegradable starch films have been cast 158 times. 15 consistent films which represented around 9.5% of all samples have been made. This shows that the production technology is complex and the method of manufacture has not been developed. |
