Abstract [eng] |
This thesis therefor aims to research the use of cinema education in secondary school for media and information literacy education. The research problem is considered to be the lack of scientific research on cinema education as a tool to develop media and information literacy. The case study analysis of “Kino klubas” (Eng. Cinema club) projects was chosen as a research strategy. It includes observation, literature analisis and interviews as a data gathering methods and qualitative content analisis as a data analyzing method. “Kino klubas” is a educational cinema project coordinated by Lithuania film center. The project originates in Great Britain and is now being developed all over Europe. Participating schools have to create their own cinema clubs for their students after school hours, project provides schools with a free online film base which should have movie reviews and material support for discussions after movies. It is one of the first such online movie resourse for schools in Lithuania. The first chapter analyses the origins and relationships between media and information literacy and cinema education. It was discovered that although cinema education is concentrating on more narrow field of media literacy, their goals are maching in a certain way and cinema education can be a good tool to work on media and information literacy. The interviewed students show an advanced level of media and information literacy, though their previous experience should be taken into concideration. The case study showed that “Kino klubas” project could become a good tool to use in secondary schools, if coordinators would fix the lack of material support (with creative tasks preferably) and guidance for teachers. |
