The aim of this research was to develop an algorithm which could determine the centerline of the object faster than the existing algorithms. The chosen approach extends some basic principles presented in the paper "A simple centerline extraction approach for 2D polygons", which was written by dr. Aleksas Riškus and dr. Armantas Ostreika, and develops these ideas further. Three existing algorithms, representing different approaches (topological thinning, Voronoi diagrams, distance transformation) on centerline extraction were chosen and compared with the algorithm, which has been developed, measuring both accuracy and speed. |
