Abstract [eng] Both materialism and conspicuous consumption influence purchase of symbolical values of consumers’ ownership. Research studies carried out by a number of researchers investigating materialism and conspicuous consumption reveal that the phenomenon of materialism is closely related to conspicuous consumption. Both phenomena of materialism and conspicuous consumption have been extensively analysed in scientific literature in various contexts. Nevertheless, there is lack of research studies dealing with interrelation between single fields of manifestation of materialism and conspicuous consumption. Analysis of scientific literature also reveals that interrelation between materialism (and single components of it) and conspicuous consumption can be impacted by a particular generation of consumers. The impact of the components of materialism on conspicuous consumption as well as different generations of consumers influence the mentioned interrelation; and the assessment of it will contribute to deeper cognition of the phenomenon ofmaterialism.
