Academic institutions which are seeking for operational efficiency, continuity and to remain competitive among other universities, must apply various systems and methods for their performance measurement. The objective of research is – Lithuanian universities reports of performance measurement. The aim of research is to prepare the theoretical model of Lithuanian universities performance measurement by analyzing theoretical aspects of performance measurement in universities and evaluating content of Lithuania universities performance measurement reports. Analysis of the scientific literature revealed that the university's success depends on its openness, ability to ensure its dissemination of performance and results also the ability to meet the expectations of the stakeholders. It also has been identified that the performance measurement process might help universities to improve their visions, solve problems of performance efficiency and to control the university's performance results. By combining performance measurement indicators, values and objectives that have been set, success of value creation for the universities stakeholders can be achieved. The theoretical model of performance measurement system has shown that in order to implement the strategy, universities should focus on four main areas of activity - education, studies, public/business and management processes which covers the financial and human resources. In each performance area strategic objectives are set and their availability are measured by indicators. These performance areas are covered by management element. Lithuanian universities performance measurement reports content analysis revealed that most of the information is related to the area of studies, and at least disclosed is a public/business information. Case study of Kaunas University of Technology, Faculty of Economics and Business showed that the measurement of the performance are existing as a cyclic process. That means - University applies the adapted model of “Plan – do – check – act (PDCA)”. First of all, the performance, as well as strategic goals, which are adequate for university vision and mission, are planned. Measurement and execution of strategic objectives are also carried out. After that the results are evaluated and the causes of failure in reaching goals are identified. When these actions are done, the decisions, which are must for the improvement of performance and strategic goals, are made. |
