Abstract [eng] Distant education is not very common in Lithuania; mainly people who have good computer skills are interested in it. However, fast improvement in the infrastructure makes distant learning also possible to those who use computer less often. Advance in the information and communication technology influence the development of distant learning. It started to be used at a new virtual level where there are best facilities for its development. The research focuses on the use of virtual learning system with integrated vide conference programme for informal adults’ education. User needs analysis showed that the majority of people who encountered with distant learning were satisfied with it and most of them would like to continue studying this way. Most respondents pointed out that this method is acceptable because they can plan their time and study at their own pace. The teaching centre “Žinių Gausa“ expanding its activities in Lithuania needs distance learning system which could unite the direct communication between teachers and students using means of technology and possibility to place and access studying materials on line. This system should also include a possibility for learners to communicate in chat rooms. Žinių Gausa has chosen to implement the virtual learning system Moodle because it is an open code system that has wide functional potential and comprehensible user interface. In addition, the teaching centre chose to use BigBlueButton video conference programme. It allows transmitting image and sound, there is an opportunity for learners to speak using camera and microphone or instant messaging and it shows their presentations and desktop. BigBlueButton video conference programme is free of charge.
