Fruit and vegetables can suffer from various surface defects during picking, storage and transport, which can reduce their economic value. In addition, the absence of detection of pest damage to the fruit or vegetables may lead to the spread of the disease or the pests themselves. Generally, the detection and classification of defects in fruit and vegetable products is still done manually. Traditional manual grading is characterized by low accuracy and high cost. This work aims at efficient assessment of quality and freshness of fruits and vegetables using deep learning techniques. Convolutional neural network based methods are reviewed, compared with each other and an architectural modification is proposed. |
