Abstract [eng] |
Variety of virtual learning management systems (VLMS) are being used each day in almost every corner of the world. Nowadays, the most popular and mostly used VLMS is non-commercial system – Moodle. During time numbers of non-commercial systems were purchased and became commercial. Therefore, it is very important to analyze possibilities of other systems that can be used in e-learning. The subject of this thesis is investigation of Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 use and adaptation opportunities in e-learning. There has been made a review of SharePoint and Moodle technologies; e-learning course was prepared in both systems, which helped to do the experiment and to compare both systems. The results of the analysis showed that SharePoint Server 2007 has a number of elements (co-operation and communication, users registration, content management, tasks and surveys management, interface change tools), which could be used for e-learning, but this server lacks relevant components, such as: testing, assessment and student tracking tools. Therefore, if we want to use SharePoint Server 2007 as virtual learning environment, it is necessary to expand its capabilities. This can be accomplished using a non-commercial product the “SharePoint Learning Kit”, which complements the standard server in evaluation capabilities, supports SCORM 2004 standard, and has a simpler tool for student registration and assignment of tasks. Also, commercial tool “The QUIZ Web Part” could be used for testing opportunities. To sum up, theoretical study and system (Moodle and SharePoint Server 2007) comparison showed that the best match for distance learning standards and distance learning courses management system is Moodle. The user’s ratings of systems relevance: • Positive evaluation of Moodle relevance – 94 percent; • Positive evaluation of SharePoint Server 2007 relevance – 85 percent. These results showed that the best system, that satisfies user’s needs, is Moodle. |
