Foreign language skills are essential in today's information technology era. It requires continuous improvement, repetition and self-development. Knowledge of foreign languages enables a person to broaden his or her horizons: to communicate with the world, to learn about different cultures, to use different sources of information and to exchange knowledge. In addition, knowledge of foreign languages promotes independence, creativity and critical thinking. Nevertheless, motivation, attitudes and beliefs about language learning are key factors influencing students' success in language classes. The aim of this paper is to improve the engagement and motivation of secondary school students in English language classes by applying an information technology based English language learning system to help make lessons more interesting and engaging. After a review of the factors motivating English language learning and a survey carried out on the factors that improve motivation, analyzing opportunities for the use of information technologies, English proficiency levels and language skills, an information technology based framework for improving English language motivation has been developed. |
