Distance learning is an area of education that undergoes rapid development. Information technologies have a great impact on distance learning. In distance learning, as well as in any other rapidly growing area, there are certain tools and techniques that make learning easier. Technology-aided language learning has a lot of potential. IT has changed traditional learning into a process that allows exercises, tests, consulting, or even easier ways to learn a new language. Currently languages are taught through various texts, audio and video recordings; however, all of them are used separately. Modern technologies, on the other hand, allow combining of these tools into a common environment with a help of various multimedia techniques and web design tools. The goal of this research is to create an online German language course using multimedia and web design tools. In the analytical part of this thesis, the existing distance learning German classes in Lithuania and abroad are reviewed and German language distance learning techniques are introduced; multimedia tools and their application possibilities are presented in regards to teaching foreign languages; web support environment creation tools are reviewed; a project of the infrastructure of distance learning with all related details is presented; teachers and high school students are surveyed. In the practical part of this thesis, the creation stage of distance learning German class is described. During implementation stage, multimedia and web design tools described in the analytical part of this paper have been tested out and based on common pedagogical teaching techniques and requirements that distance education classes have to meet, a distance learning German class has been created (web address: www.lrezoskc.lt/pamokos ). |
