The developers of real life Business Intelligence Systems often face the difficulties in transforming the relational database to multidimensional data model. Making mistakes in early phases can lead to incorrect aggregation results. The number of various conceptual models and methods are presented in the field of building the OLAP system. But they involve only the subset of problems and often do not describe all parts of the whole process. The main goal of this work is to establish a method which includes all steps (from gathering the customer requirements to developing the intelligent reports) of developing a Data Warehouse System and supports the solutions for difficult situations in creating a multidimensional model. The method was successfully adapted to the real Business Intelligence project using Microsoft tools (SQL Server 2005 Business Intelligence Development Studio, Integration Services, Analysis Services and Excel 2007) and could fit for any other enterprises which need to develop complex warehouse schemas. |
