Abstract [eng] |
Burnout is a state, being caused by long-term chronic stress in the workplace, manifesting through the absence of physical and psychological resources for work across different dimensions: emotional exhaustion, depersonalization and reduced personal accomplishment. Burnout is often associated with depression, inefficiency, avoidance of decision-making and task avoidance, posing as a danger to an individual’s health and any organization. This topic has not been sufficiently explored from the perspective of leaders/managers and remains entirely unexplored within the Lithuanian Armed Forces. In the context of ambitious growth of the Lithuanian Armed Forces, burnout becomes highly significant as motivated and competent leaders will be required for the organization’s expansion and goal attainment. Effective burnout management helps reduce the likelihood of losing competent leaders, maintains their motivation, empowers them to act, make decisions and effectively execute or organize tasks. To achieve this, it is necessary to understand the factors which influence burnout. In this study, factors contributing to burnout were categorized as organizational and individual. Organizational factors arise from the internal organizational policies, decision-making, intensity of activities, and other characteristics of the organizations. Individual factors also influence burnout, emphasizing on the importance of considering sociodemographic characteristics and personal motivation of leaders. This research identifies which of these factors affect burnout. |
