Technological learning enables firms to successfully innovate and upgrade technology. Therefore, this study aims to enhance technological learning through firms’ interactions in collaborative innovation networks. In doing so, the innovation capabilities for improving technological learning in collaborative innovation networks are studied. In addition, the role of capabilities to succeed in the technological advancement of networks and the facilitation for sustainable production is explored as a vital direction of technological learning. Further, the study develops a framework to carry out technological learning towards technological upgrading in a sustainable way. The study employed both quantitative and qualitative methods of research to analyze data collected data from technology-based firms and experts from industry, policy, and academia. The findings imply that the participation of firms in international networks should be given attention, especially in small and emerging economies, to develop technological learning interactions in national innovation systems. Moreover, firms should improve their technological absorptive capacity and technological orientation to optimize the benefits of technological learning. Firms should put efforts to develop their human, relational, and structural capital to successfully manage the technological upgrading of networks that will lead toward achieving their goal of sustainable production. Finally, while undertaking technological learning the sustainable development aspects should be considered for technological upgrading to stay competitive and innovative. |
