Abstract [eng] |
Recently, more and more attention has been paid to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and the search for less polluting production methods for ammonia. Electrochemical synthesis of ammonia is the main way to compete with polluting ammonia production using natural gas or coal. This master's final project reviews the basics of green ammonia synthesis using electrochemical technologies. The catalysts used in the research and the efficiencies achieved by them are compared. Electrochemical tests of AISI-brand stainless steels were carried out by reducing nitrate ions in an aqueous solution. The determination of electrocatalytic activity showed that AISI 304 steel is more active in nitrate reduction reactions than other related steels. Their activity is arranged in the following order: AISI 304 > AISI 302 > AISI 321 > AISI 316. Also, AISI 304 steel showed higher corrosion resistance; the measured corrosion rate of this steel is equal to 0.14 m per year. The technological scheme of the electrochemical synthesis of ammonia using nitrogen and water is presented. The competitiveness of the described technology is compared to conventional HaberBosch production process. Electrochemical synthesis becomes economically attractive only if gas price significantly increases – when the price of natural gas exceeds 0.25 €/kWh and the price of electricity is below 0.2 €/kWh. |
