Abstract [eng] The final master's project evaluates the possibilities of increasing energy efficiency and reducing GHG emissions in the pet food production companies in Lithuania. A more detailed assessment was carried out at the company UAB "Mars Lietuva", which produces wet animal food. Research methods used in the project: analysis of statistical, practical and scientific literature to determine the relevance of the work; methodology for implementation of Cleaner Production (CP) concept within industrial enterprises (e.g., systematic identification of environmental problems and causes through analysis of material, fuel and energy flows, feasibility analysis of proposals, evaluation of environmental performance); GHG assessment according to the IPCC methodology, comparative analysis with BAT level. After identifying the main environmental problems and their causes, the following alternatives were selected for the feasibility analysis: modernization of the cooling/ventilation system, eliminating environmentally harmful freon gas; installation of the heat pumps and waste heat energy from cooling water usage for hot water preparation and water aeration in the boiler room; installation of the solar power plant and electricity usage from renewable energy sources (RES). In order to assess the feasibility of the proposed measures, their technical assessment (including experimental evaluation of energy consumption in the company), a comparative analysis of environmental indicators and direct costs of processes before and after the implementation of the measures was carried. After the feasibility analysis of the proposals and evaluating the planned environmental performance, it was determined that their implementation would allow reducing electricity consumption from the power grid by 28%, the consumption of natural gas by 15%, eliminating of the use of the environmentally harmful freon. The implementation of all recommended measures in animal food production company would reduce the intensity of energy use by 16.8%. The average payback period of all proposed alternatives is 1.4 years. GHG emissions would decrease by 29.3% due to the reduction of natural gas consumption, the elimination of freon and the introduction of a compensatory measure - solar power plant (1 200 kWp).
