Abstract [eng] Matrix power converters are an array of controlled semiconductor switches that connect a three-phase source to a three-phase load. Matrix drives can provide bidirectional power flow, control the output waveform, and feed power back to the grid when the drive is decelerated. These features lead to the focus on bidirectional matrix drives. Considering the possibilities of matrix drives, this work has carried out a study of the energy characteristics of indirect, sparse and very sparse matrix drives when they operate in the regenerative working mode.
