Abstract [eng] |
Gen Z children are growing up surrounded by various technologies. Kids of this generation are used to receiving processed and concentrated information, which doesn’t require any additional effort to understand. It is a generation, which is computer-smarts, whose main tool is the latest technology and the internet. The increasing demand for information technology and the rapid change in how students learn requires the incorporation of more interactive methods of teaching. Information technology is an inseparable part of teenage life. These days’ libraries are facing a challenge – Gen Z kids. How can they adapt to old reading habits? One of the solutions to this problem is to incorporate more information technology into libraries. It is important to notice that this generation tends to use technology as their main source of information. Libraries should engage and motivate teenagers to read books. This means that libraries have to choose between technology, and traditional books and sources to comply with this generation’s wants and needs, and to ensure the importance and significance of reading. A virtual book club can be one of the solutions to motivate Gen Z teenagers to read. In this project, we are analysing the aspects and means to motivate adolescents to read. Firstly, we will look at the theoretical framework, which can distinguish the motives for reading. We are analyzing teenagers’ reading habits and needs. The key to solving this problem may be a virtual book club. To implement this club we used virtual platforms like Moodle and Google Site. When choosing the virtual setting to implement the virtual book club, we conducted research with teenagers. Based on our research we concluded that Google Site would be the best option. This virtual environment was chosen for its simplicity and accessibility. Google Site provides the ability to create mobile sites, which are easy to update, has multiple free templates, and is compatible with other Google products. Creating these sites does not require any advanced programming knowledge or skills. The virtual book club is a means of motivating adolescents to read. Based on the survey data the virtual book club is used as a tool to make reading more engaging and to motivate young teenagers to continue their reading. To actualize the virtual book club we created a virtual book club ontology, prepared a public presentation for this club, organized virtual meetings with writers, and prepared interactive activities. . |
