Abstract [eng] Creativity as a phenomenon has recently become an interdisciplinary paradigm, analyzed not only in philosophy, psychology or educational science, but also in many other branches of science. Creativity as characteristic still unique only to humans, plays an important role in the rapidly advancing age of technology and is becoming a future perspective. Although it is traditionally associated with ingenuity, originality, exceptional ability to create new, unusual ideas and solve various problems, creativity can be defined in different ways due to its extremely broad concept and different roles played in various fields. Thus, it is believed that it could be too difficult to unambiguously define the characteristics of creativity. The manifestation of linguistic creativity is defined as creation of new, unusual words by deviating from or not following the rules established in the language. Thus, word formation is considered as one of the most productive ways of filling and renewing the language, and the creation of new words and meanings is an expression of the creativity of language users. This study develops the idea that linguistic creativity can be defined as new words, created by means of word blending as atypical, still unusual in Lithuanian language but becoming increasingly popular word formation method, which are considered as an expression of linguistic creativity. In the part of theoretical insights the concept of creativity as a multidimensional construct found in many disciplines and the theoretical aspects of linguistic realization are discussed, and the problem of the definition of creativity, possible ways of realizing linguistic creativity in word formation and methods of psycholinguistic research on creativity are analyzed. Moreover, the problems and strategies for translating new words are studied. The research is conducted on descriptive and quantitative approach, and psycholinguistic experiment, during which an online written survey was conducted. The descriptive analysis is carried out by examining the creative aspects of creation and translation of new words found in The Database of Lithuanian Neologisms and social media. Quantitative analysis is applied in the study of language users' divergent thinking and creativity in word formation, in order to determine how the creative potential of human thinking is directly reflected in the structure and usage language. After completion of the analysis, it was observed that word blending helps to concisely and at the same time expressively describe an unusual phenomenon, by forming new words characterized as novel and original, and deviating from traditional word formation. However, the problem of conveying the expressiveness and creativity of the author manifested in the original text is encountered when translating new blends into Lithuanian. By analyzing and searching for connections between divergent thinking and word formation is found that word formation is a creative act of language users, and aspects of the manifestation of creativity in this process are determined by the divergent thinking abilities.
