Sustainability has emerged as a key purpose amongst governments, researchers and the public. One way in which education institutions can implement the idea of sustainability is through the use of ecological footprint that will characterize the current situation in resource using and help determine where to focus efforts in order to achieve the goal of sustainability. The use of the ecological footprint indicator represents an innovative attitude to calculate the load that an institution imposes on the natural environment. The goal of this study is to adapt ecological footprint assessment methodology, used in Lithuanian schools, for universities and illustrate the benefits of using this analysis at the institution scale. |
