Abstract [eng] |
With the global pandemic of COVID-19, personal protective equipment and disinfectants have become one of the key tools in controlling the spread of the virus in society. Their consumption has risen at an unprecedented rate worldwide. The use of protective face masks has increased, as they are highly effective means of curbing the spread of the disease. Therefore, this master thesis caried out a life cycle assessment for the three most popular face protection products (medical masks, FFP1 and FFP2 respirators) and a relatively new alternative to the market – the transparent composite face mask. Life cycle assessment is a methodology that identifies potential impacts on the environment and its resources throughout the life cycle of a product, i. y. from the production of raw materials to the treatment of the waste generated. Life cycle assessment is performed according to the LST EN ISO 14044: 2007 standard and is divided into four main stages: definition of the objectives and scope of the study; life cycle inventory analysis; life cycle impact assessment; interpretation of the results. |
