Abstract [eng] Sustainable development consists of main three domains: environmental, economic, cultural and social. However, the social domain is the most over looked out of the four. The social phenomena, by contrast, are measured only by very negative indicators: crime, the need for social housing, the amount of benefits paid etc. Therefore, the aim of this study is to pay attention to the social environment of cities, apply world-known indicators to Lithuania and look for measures on how these social indicators can be influenced in the urban planning. To this day, the social indicators are discussed with an emphasis on, perhaps, one of the most important social capital. This research is concentrated on the local social capital, which describes the shared values, social norms and trust of the location, which leads to the reciprocity and cooperation. As part of the theories of environmental determinism, the social capital could be partly influenced by the physical proprieties of the urban space. The most promising theory is to treat city as an extension of social consciousness or memory. It has theoretical foundations in behaviour psychology and neuroscience and is enabled by the data science and the emerging availability of computational power. There are numerous methods to measure various parameters of urban shape as memory, which concentrate on the transportation or the type of usage, contrary to the methods of measuring architecture, where concentration is in harmony with visual information; therefore, the adaptation of methods that are meant for architecture to measure the urban shape as memory could lead to better models that would allow predicting social capital index.
